Club Profile

Rotary Club of Kalimpong has 43 active members and 2 honorary members out of which 7 are lady members. The youngest member in our club is in his early 30’s and the oldest member, an honorary Rotarian, is in his mid-seventies. The average age of members of our club is 49 yrs. We have had 3 AGs. We have 13 PHF’s. Our Club has sponsored 5 interact clubs, 1 Rotaract Club and 1 RCC.

We have implemented 4 matching grant projects, have sent 3 members on Group Study Exchange, hosted several youth exchange students, GSE teams, Rotary Volunteers, Ambassadorial Scholars, etc.

A permanent RotaryKalimpong Centre is constructed and is being used by the club for various programmes including our weekly meetings on Thursdays at 5pm; the land for this Centre was donated by one of our active members Rtn. Ms. Indira Bose.

In February 2003, Rotary Club of Kalimpong was awarded the prestigious RUSI B. GIMI AWARD. It is the highest award instituted by the state government of West Bengal in the field of Social Service.

On the Rotary Centennial Year, we undertook the renovation and upkeep of the Trikone Park, the most visible landmark in Kalimpong where we installed a guide map and “The Four-Way Test” plaque. We have dedicated this park to the people of Kalimpong and have undertaken the responsibility for its upkeep and maintenance.

7 members of our Club attended the 97th. Rotary International Convention at Malmo and Copenhagen in June 2006 and 2 members attended the 100th Rotary Convention at Birmingham in 2009. Rtn. Andrew Lal and Rtn. Prakash Gupta will be representing our club at Montreal, Canada this year for the 101st Convention.

Two members were inducted in November,2009. Rtn. Alvin Lama, who runs a Hotel Management Institute and Rtn. Bibeth Sharma who is a University Lecturer and was one of the team members of the GSE Team from Dist:3240 to Orlando in 2009.

Besides these, we undertake many ongoing projects that address the needs of the community. We are only 17 years old, still a relatively young and new club, but in terms of projects and the number of people we have helped, we have accomplished much more.

Do check out our International Projects on Anvil. Let's join hands and support the efforts of Rotary International in fulfillment of the Object of Rotary, Rotary's mission, and the achievement of world understanding and peace through local, national and international humanitarian, educational and cultural programs.
